How does BOTOX® work?

BOTOX blocks the nerve to muscle signals that would normally tell your muscles to contract. Since the injected muscle cannot move, the wrinkles around it relax and soften.

It is used as an anti-wrinkle treatment on forehead lines, crow's feet (lines around the eye) and frown lines. Wrinkles caused by gravity and sun damage will not respond to BOTOX.

I hear that Botox could cause Botulism. Is that true?

Administered by a trained nurse, there is no danger of botulism from BOTOX. In fact, it would take significant amounts-often 100 times more than normal usage-of the toxin to cause botulism.

How long will it take for me to see improvement once I am treated?

It takes about 3 days after your treatment to see the benefits of BOTOX on your facial wrinkles, frown lines and crow's feet.

What are the potential side effects of BOTOX Cosmetic Injections?

Side effects are typically minimal. Some can include temporary bruising, headaches, temporary eyelid droop, nausea, flu like syndrome or respiratory infection.

The headaches, although rare, can happen. They are gone with 24 to 48 hours.

If it occurs, eyelid drooping usually goes away after three weeks. It's caused by BOTOX movement within the muscles. So, you'll want to avoid rubbing the injected areas for at least 12 hours.

How long do the benefits of a BOTOX injection last?

The effect on frown lines, facial wrinkles and crow's feet can be seen for 3 to 6 months after treatment. Lines and wrinkles will reappear as the nerve to muscle signals return and the muscles begin to contract again.

However, because the muscle memory is being trained to relax, the lines can appear less severe when upon reappearance.

Is there anyone who should not receive BOTOX Injections?

A consultation with a trained, experienced nurse is recommended, since BOTOX is ineffective on some wrinkles. Breastfeeding patients or those with a neurological disease should avoid Botox
